How-To: Reference Therapy-Science

Over the years there have been several inquiries about how to reference Therapy-Science with respect to the APA style and reference guidelines (link). Therapy-Science exists in a strange place – it has both software components in the iGraph™ functionality as well as elements that can be considered traditional reference material which are utilized to assist with research projects, thesis work, general articles, etc. The APA guidelines don’t provide a lot of clarity when it comes to software, so today we’ll look at acceptable ways to reference either of these two elements of Therapy-Science.

iGraph™

For those of you that want to reference the iGraph™ component of Therapy-Science, we can tackle this by treating it as software. According to APA guidelines, you do not need to reference “common or well known software”, however it is a good idea to provide a formal reference for specific tools or software packages that are not commonly known. I have found that this link published by the Auckland University of Technology provides some helpful guidance in the matter (link).

With those considerations in mind, you can reference iGraph™ related materials (visuals, statistical results, etc.) using the following:

Ultra Blue, LLC (2014). Therapy-Science.com, iGraph™ (Version current version here) [Computer software]. Ultra Blue, LLC. https://www.therapy-science.com/

You can find the current version in the bottom right of the iGraph™ – expressed in the form of xx.xx.xx-x.x For example: 22.03.27-0.1

Articles or book chapters

Because individual pages may be updated and improved over time, you will want to cite any article or book chapter with a retrieval date. Since publication dates are not shown for each and every page on Therapy-Science, you can identify that instead in the citation. If referencing a particular article or book chapter from Therapy-Science, then you can utilize the following template – filling in the title and retrieval date to match your needs:

Ultra Blue, LLC (n.d.). Title of article or book chapter. Therapy-Science. Retrieved retrieval date, from Therapy-Science.com

See the APA website for more information on referencing webpages (link).
